This is the ironic story of how I used AI to help me build Automate With Intent so I would use less AI. But, let’s not get ahead of ourselves.
There are two pretty big facts about AI tools right now:
- They’re changing things at an exciting and incredible rate
- They use tons of electricity, water, and other resources
They are making many areas of my life significantly easier. I get information faster, I’m more productive, and I’m having a lot of fun.
But, that resource drain thing is bugging me.
My Mission Against AI Resource Drain
I’m not going to stop using AI tools, and it wouldn’t matter if I did. I hope/assume that they’ll get more efficient and use less electricity over time, but I fear/assume that we’ll just want even stronger things then.
That means we have to find ways to push back on them.
Get Ready For Irony
I noticed that in my daily workflow, I’ve started using LLMs to do things that they’re way overqualified for. I don’t need a formula one driver delivering my pizza (even though that would be awesome), and I don’t need the latest model to check the temperature outside.
So, I put Claude Code through its paces and had it crank out the start of a new tool designed to make non-AI versions of various tasks I regularly do.
It’s called Automate With Intent, and you can see it here: https://www.automatewithintent.com/
Do You Need A Simple Task Automated?
This tool is meant to be collaborative, and it’s meant to be neverending. Just let me know if you need something, and I’d be happy to add it to my backlog!
